Government is taking away parents’ rights over their children.

The Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, has strongly criticized the government’s education reforms, saying they deprive parents of their rights and damage the country’s cultural and religious foundations.

Expressing further views, the Venerable said:

“There are various programs that are being implemented in today’s society that are undermining marriage. One such problem is the sex education curriculum recently prepared by our Ministry of Education. What exactly are they teaching our children through this? Starting from children as young as six years old and right up to adulthood, this sex education teaches various types of wrong behaviors, telling children that these actions are acceptable, acceptable, and that there is nothing wrong with them. We see that the current government is promoting an education reform system that takes away this right from parents. This is unacceptable to us,

Sri Lanka has a heritage culture rooted in Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity. That civilization and values should not be abandoned by foreign influence.

While recognizing that the rights of children should be respected, such rights should not be misused to weaken family ties,” the Venerable said while speaking at a function held at St. Joseph’s Church, Hanwella.
