Japan’s Prime Minister, who arrives today, plans to promote trade and investment
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who is on an official tour of South Asia, will arrive in Sri Lanka today. This will be the first official visit by a Japanese Prime Minister to the island nation in 24 years. He will be arriving from Bangladesh, where he held official talks with Prime Minister Sheik Hasina.
Abe plans to promote Japan’s trade and investment in the two countries, foreign media reported. “I hope to strengthen relationships with the two countries. I am going there as Japan’s leader and top salesman, and hope to use their dynamism to revitalize Japan’s economy,” Abe said before his departure to South Asia. This tour comes days after a successful visit to Japan by Indian PM Narendra Modi.
The Japanese PM and his delegation will be received at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and a special government delegation. He will participate in a ceremony to inaugurate construction work on the second terminal at BIA.
After an official welcome ceremony at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, Abe will hold official talks with President Rajapaksa. PM Abe will also visit the Sri Lankan Parliament which was constructed with Japanese aid three decades ago.
A large business delegation will be arriving with Abe. The Sri Lanka-Japan business community will hold a meeting at Cinnamon Grand Hotel with the participation of the Japanese PM to widen Japan-Sri Lanka investment opportunities.Prime Minister Abe will leave the island tomorrow.
